About UsIn January of 1974, Iskender "CoCo" Cingoz came to the United States from his native Turkey with the hope of building a better life for his family. He had worked in the restaurant business, the taxi business, and the printing business in his homeland and, since printing was his first love, he quickly found work in that field. Two years later, he was joined by his wife Nadya and his twin sons, Ari and Artun, who were just three months old when CoCo came to the US. A year later CoCo opened his own print shop (with Gene Patterson, one of the first friends he made in this country). Located on Durant Avenue, it was a tiny storefront (just 300 square feet!). CoCo name the business "Anto" out of admiration and affection for his brother Antranik, who was his elder by two years and was a successful lawyer in Istanbul. The name also reflects CoCo's Armenian heritage, of which he is very proud. The name "Antranik" translates into "first born male baby," and since this was his first business venture in his new country, he found the name Anto double appropriate. Over three years and many 12- and 16-hour days, Anto Printing developed a reputation for getting the job done right and on time--and CoCo discovered that he had outgrown his Durant Avenue space. He moved into the shopping complex next to Grand Auto in 1981. this was an eightfold increase in square footage. In 1986 Coco was able to fulfill a dream by bringing his mother and father to this country; and finally in December of 1994, his dream was complete when his brother Anto was granted permission to immigrate to the U.S. With the family now gathered and the business growing, the inevitable occurred..and Anto Printing moved to 1798 University Avenue. With the purchase of the new building and the addition of full-color offset printing capabilities Anto became a premier printing company serving Berkeley and the entire Bay Area. Anto's latest move, in December 2006, has taken the business to 919 Stanford Ave. in Oakland--right on the Berkeley border. Shared facilities and equipment with Hunza Graphics give us even better ways to serve our customers. We would like to thank you--our customers, both old and new--for your patronage over the years. Without you, these dreams would not have come true. We look forward to meeting your printing needs for many years to come. |
